Same same but different.

Updated: 4 days ago

It’s not the environment. It’s how you move through it.

There’s something powerful about vacation, especially when you step out of your usual space and anchors. It changes how you move, how you think, how you respond.

How do you react when your flight is delayed?

When you are sleep deprived?

When your body is out of rhythm?

How do you support yourself in a completely different environment?

Because what often happens is this:

Your stress drops when work stops…

But slowly creeps back in through travel itself.

Packing. Airports. Delays. Crowds. Fatigue.

And there goes the nervous system overload again.

This time, something felt different.

Not because the trip was easier but because I was more aware of how I was moving through it.

I started supporting myself in real time, instead of reacting to everything around me.

And that changed the entire experience.

What helped me:

  • Visualizing the trip before leaving

  • Creating a sense of comfort + safety wherever I was

  • Breathing when I felt tension or discomfort

  • Noticing my inner dialogue (and gently redirecting it)

  • Choosing to see what was working

  • Setting myself up for success (walks, snacks, rest)

If you don’t support yourself, it’s easy to get pulled into frustration, negativity, or overwhelm.

And suddenly… you feel like you need a vacation from your vacation.

Here are some small reframes that made a difference for me:

  • “I have to sit for hours” → This is my rest day

(tip: get steps in at the airport before your flight)

  • “This flight is so long” → This is uninterrupted time for rest or enjoyment

(tip: bring a book or journal you actually want to use)

The goal isn’t to eliminate stress.

It’s to learn how to move through it differently.

To come back to your body.

To support yourself in real time.

To realign more quickly when you get pulled out of alignment.

Because it’s not about never reacting.

It’s about how quickly you can return to yourself.

That’s the real shift.

Control what you can control.

Flow with what you can’t control.

What do I need in this moment?
